Accredited courses:
Awarding body: National Open College Network (NOCN)
Award in Tackling and Preventing Domestic Abuse – Level 3 Cost: £830
Suitable for volunteers or those interested in entering the domestic abuse sector as a profession. The Award consists of 3 units, all of which must be completed by learners to pass the qualification.
Certificate in Tackling and Preventing Domestic Abuse – Level 3 Cost: £2,315
Suitable for those who have been working in a domestic abuse service for 6+ months. It is a Home Office recognised qualification, qualifying the learner as a Domestic Abuse Prevention Advocate/Independent Domestic Violence Advisor. The course consists of 4 units, all of which must be completed by learners to pass the qualification.
Leadership and Management: Awarding body: ILM (NOCN)
Level 3 in Leadership and Management Cost: £800
ILM is a well-recognised and regarded leadership qualification specialist. The level 3 qualification is ideal for individuals that have management responsibilities and want to develop their skills, knowledge and abilities. Through the completion of this qualification learners will: Understand leadership: different styles and own style of leadership, be able to effectively plan and allocate work to effectively manage stress in the workplace.
Short courses
Understanding Coercive Control Cost: £90
A 3 hour course focusing on understanding coercive and controlling behaviours and its impact on survivors. This session is suitable for anyone who works in a role where they are in contact with survivors or perpetrators of abuse.
Domestic Abuse Awareness Cost: £90
A 3hour course focusing on domestic abuse and effectively supporting survivors, including signposting for support. This entry-level course is suitable for anyone interested in understanding domestic abuse and how to support survivors; it is not recommended for those already working in the sector (Award or Certificate courses are more suitable.
Groupwork Facilitator courses:
You and Me, Mum (YMM) – Facilitators Training Cost: £472.50
YMM is a groupwork programme to support and empower survivors who are mothers to understand how domestic abuse may have affected them and their children, and aid in their recovery. This programme trains those working in the sector to deliver and run the YMM programme in their services. Materials are provided. This training is for experienced, female groupwork facilitators, as YMM is only for female survivors. The course is usually delivered over 4 half-day sessions.
Power of Change (PoC) – Facilitators Training Cost: £525
PoC is designed to train groupwork facilitators on how to effectively deliver the Power of Change groupwork programme to survivors. PoC is for female survivors to attend in a group setting, focusing on understanding domestic abuse, trauma, and recovery. This training is for experienced, female domestic abuse practitioners who are currently delivering/wish to deliver the PoC groupwork programme as part of their service. The course is usually delivered over 4 half-day sessions, with physical resources sent prior to training.
Helping Hands (HH) – Facilitators Training Cost: £380
Helping Hands is a programme developed by Women’s Aid Northern Ireland designed for practitioners who support children and young people. The programme centres around safe and healthy relationships, safety planning, and personal space. This facilitators programme trains facilitators who will be running the Helping Hands programme for children and young people accessing their services. The course is suitable for experienced domestic abuse practitioners who work with children and young people and will be involved in delivering the HH programme. This training is delivered over one 4-hour session, with physical resources sent prior to training.
Specialist subject courses:
Vicarious Trauma Cost: Varies
This course focuses on vicarious trauma for practitioners in the sector and supports them in understanding what vicarious trauma is and how to address it in their roles. This course is available for delivery on a bespoke basis.
Bystander Intervention Cost: Varies
This 3 hour course focuses on how members of the public can intervene in situations involving abuse or sexual harassment occurring in public. Suitable for anyone, it has been previously delivered to university staff with great reception. This is a bespoke session is offered upon request.
Training for Housing Providers and Professionals Cost: Varies
Content across the courses focuses on understanding domestic abuse and coercive control, survivors' housing needs, specialist housing legislation related to domestic abuse, and supporting and signposting for survivors. Courses are generally suitable for housing professionals in local authority housing services, social housing groups, or private housing providers. These courses can be offered individually or as a package of courses.
Training for workplaces Introduction to VAWG and Domestic Abuse Cost: £300 +VAT
90 minute online session to provide a foundational understanding of VAWG (Violence Against Women and Girls) and Domestic Abuse.
In-depth training on VAWG
Webinar 1: 3 hour online session which provides a more comprehensive level of training on VAWG and domestic abuse. This training includes in-depth support for people managers in how to respond to disclosure of domestic abuse. Webinar 2: 3 hour online session which provides information on trauma informed approached and professional responses to domestic abuse in the workplace. This training considers intersectionality and multiple disadvantage and provides practical strategies for effective signposting.
