You and me, mum: facilitation programme
This is a two-day course, developed by Women’s Aid Northern Ireland, which will teach you to run ‘You and Me, Mum’ training, a 10-week programme for mothers with experiences of domestic and sexual abuse.
‘You and Me, Mum’ aims to empower and support survivors in furthering their understanding of their role as mothers and in addressing the needs of children and young people who have lived with domestic abuse.
What does the course cover?
- The effects of domestic and sexual abuse on women as mothers and on children and young people
- Effective communication skills with children and young people
- Working with challenging behaviours
- Protective behaviours and strategies for keeping mothers, children and young people safe
Who is this training suitable for?
This course is suitable for domestic abuse practitioners with experience of facilitating group work.
NB This course is not designed for families where the primary perpetrator of domestic abuse is still in the family home. This is because changes in mothers’ behaviours due to learning from attending the course might increase the risk of domestic abuse to themselves and to their children.
