Women’s Aid welcomes Apna Haq’s funding news
Polly Neate, Chief Executive of Women’s Aid, said:
“We welcome the news that Apna Haq has received funding for a further six months. This lifeline from Rotherham council will help save the lives of women fleeing domestic abuse. The unique expertise and support that Apna Haq provides for BME women is vital, and it cannot be lost.
“In addition, we urge Rotherham council to find a long-term funding solution for Apna Haq, and we renew our calls to the government to protect our national network of lifesaving domestic violence refuges and find a long-term sustainable funding solution. Short-term solutions will not do, and we will continue to campaign until this is understood and acted upon. With an average of 2 women a week in England and Wales being killed at the hands of a partner or ex-partner, we cannot afford to lose any more domestic violence services.”
