We are writing to reaffirm Women’s Aid’s commitment to fundamental feminist values which for us means being anti-racist and inclusive in all that we do.
Women’s Aid as an organisation is founded on women’s struggle against patriarchy, sexism and male violence and grew out of the Women’s movement in the 70’s and 80’s. Over the years our approach has drawn on the linked struggles of Black and other minoritised women including lesbians, bisexual women and disabled women, which brings us to where we are today.
Today we take an intersectional approach to our work to eradicate domestic violence and abuse and stand with other feminist organisations leading the way in eradicating Violence Against Women and Girls.
As a policy and campaigning organisation our link with our members and the hundreds of thousands of women who need Women’s Aid and continue to use our services is the lifeblood of our work.
Two thirds of our board represent member organisations with half of them coming from BME backgrounds, this provides insight and understanding to our approach to the many issues that we face and informs the decisions we make.
We are determined to continue to apply our feminist principles to the governance we provide to Women’s Aid.
We look forward to working with member groups over the next year.
