Singer-songwriter Lucy May Walker has announced her new single Without Him will be released on August 23rd. The song tackles issues of domestic and emotional abuse. Lucy is raising awareness of Women’s Aid and our lifesaving services and to encourage survivors to reach out for support.

Lucy said: “Without Him is a song I wrote for anyone who has ever been or is in a relationship with someone who doesn’t treat them with the respect they deserve. I specifically wrote it for a friend of mine in a destructive relationship she felt she couldn’t leave. It’s heart-breaking to see someone’s emotional wellbeing deteriorate in front of you to the point where they become someone you almost don’t recognise.”

Teresa Parker, Head of Communications at Women’s Aid said: “This beautiful song has a very important message. Many women are in emotionally abusive relationships where they feel controlled, but as they have not been physically hit, do not think that it counts as domestic abuse. If you are in a relationship that is unhealthy, which may be that you feel isolated from your friends and family because of your partner; coerced and controlled or are constantly walking on eggshells because of how they may react, support is available for you.

We really appreciate Lucy signposting to Women’s Aid, as this song will resonate with many – raising awareness of our services can make the world of difference to someone living in a destructive and abusive relationship.”
