International Women’s Day: Women’s Aid launches a dedicated service for professionals

Today on International Women’s Day, Women’s Aid launches a dedicated service for professionals currently working with survivors of domestic abuse, seeking refuge accommodation and support.

Professionals including social workers, health workers, housing officers and the police can access the dedicated service. Women’s Aid Direct Services team can search on Violence Against Women and Girls’ services in the UK, which provides latest information on vacancies in refuges, and availability of other Violence Against Women and Girls’ services including outreach, drop-ins, counselling services and advocacy projects.

Dr Lisa Johnson MBE, manager of Women’s Aid Direct Services, said

“Women’s Aid Direct Services are proud to launch this new online digital platform for professionals who are supporting survivors of domestic abuse. The need for up-to-date information, including refuge vacancies, is more crucial now than ever.  Through the pandemic we have seen a rise of users for our Live Chat and other direct services. We will be supporting professionals by providing information to enable them to better support survivors. This way, we can all work together for the benefit of women and children fleeing abuse and rebuilding their lives.”

A Women’s Aid survivor spokeswoman said

“This service sounds brilliant. I had a new-born baby in my arms when I approached the council for help. It is so stressful fleeing abuse and facing homelessness, and so anything that makes the process smoother for all concerned is really welcome.”
