Helping Survivors through Beauty: the Refinery 29 Beauty Box
Wednesday 30th November 2016
Sometimes, when we’re assailed with constant, terrible statistics – two women a week murdered in England and Wales on average, and new research from The Femicide Census showing that 936 women were killed by men in seven years – we can forget the lives behind the statistic. The real woman behind the number, behind the headline.
It’s the same for women in abusive relationships, or fleeing abusive relationships. Years of having their self-esteem eroded, piece by piece, means that taking pleasure in themselves can be an alien concept. Think of the little things that you do for yourself, the small ways you show yourself kindness to make yourself feel good: having a bath, spending time with friends, eating well. The way we treat ourselves is as individual as we are, but you have to believe you deserve it, or you won’t do it. If you are a survivor of domestic abuse, that belief may be out of reach. You forget who you are.
At Women’s Aid, we do everything in our power to restore dignity to the extraordinary survivors we work with. We want them to enjoy themselves again, to explore and celebrate who they are beyond the abuse.
And, this Christmas, Refinery 29 UK and Latest in Beauty are supporting us to do this. They have joined forces to create the exclusive Refinery 29 Beauty Box – a collection of beautiful little luxuries that would put a smile on anyone’s face – and donating 10% of each sale to us.
So, if you fancy treating yourself, or need a wonderful present for a loved one this Christmas, please buy the lovely, limited-edition Beauty Box – and help Women’s Aid to help survivors of domestic abuse.
