In recent years the delivery of specialist domestic violence services has been severely impacted by huge cuts to public sector funding, and a shifting by local commissioners towards using more generic service providers at cheaper financial cost. But what is the human cost of this approach?
This report, based on the Women's Aid Annual Survey and UKRefugesOnline investigates the extent of service loss in the specialist domestic violence sector and the impact on survivors of adopting a one-size-fits-all approach to support provision.
Much damage has already been done, and this report explains the impact on women and children in desperate need. Our call now is for local commissioners to work closely with specialist providers in their area to understand need, and design a specification for service delivery which can best meet that need within the resources available.
