Award winning ACT Campaign
What does it take to get someone talking about domestic violence?
A picture of a celebrity with fake bruises may seem like a cheap trick but at least you noticed her. The thing is, real victims rarely show their bruises, or indeed their emotional scars. All too often they don't even admit that there is a problem. But domestic abuse is not something that should be kept quiet. Which is why we want you to act now:
Admit its a problem
Call it by its name - domestic violence

Admit it's a problem
Victims often feel too scared or ashamed to tell anyone, or feel that no-one can help. Friends and family may not want to admit it’s a problem or feel embarrassed to talk about it. Doctors, nurses, health visitors see it all the time but often don’t ask.
But whether we are friends, family, neighbours, work colleagues, employers or helping agencies we can all do something to help stop domestic abuse.
Call it by its name - domestic violence
Domestic violence isn't just physical. It can also be emotional, sexual or financial. It isn't just a one-off incident either. It's an ongoing pattern of controlling behaviour that affects every aspect of a person's life, undermining self esteem and isolating them from sources of support. It's time we called the problem by its name - domestic violence. Find out the signs of domestic violence, and ask yourself these questions.
