Maybe there will be book 4 where she discovers that she has just landed herself in a whole world of abuse. Mr Grey a stalker in his own right ! the warning signals were there from the start. Book 5, she plots her escape ???
Your right...all I can see in this book is the life I've worked hard to escape. I went though periods of thinking it was oh so devastatingly romantic and that I must have been his world...why else would he need to be so controlling and possessive..then I woke up!!
I read the first two chapters and thought it was crap...and to keep hearing about it grates to the core....50 Shade of STFU!!
and think it shows the lack of knowledge in society and its down falls ...when everyones jumped on the band waggon to read it, especially those claiming its a feminist book ....saying this have only read about it online not the actual books like , but the extracts are horrifying enough and the fact supermarkets have none left on there shelves ....
A friend of mine said to me that it was ok cos the female protagonist "willingly" participated. What I heard was that she signed a contract to do "whatever" he asked....without knowing what any of the things would be. I lost oatience and didn't bother putting forth my arguement that it used to be the same when you signed a marriage certificate (and to some men still is!) I mean, even the vow used to be to "obey" (only for the woman mind) People bewilder me.
I'm in a book club - someone suggested this book, everyone was talking about how great it was. I started reading it and it really, really upset me. I can't see how anyone can think it's exciting and sexy - I hate this about my life, being pressured into being submissive and being made to feel like if I don't then i'm a prude, or boring, or I don't like sex. I just don't want to be bullied and hurt and out of control. I don't understand who reads this and thinks it's fun!
it seems to really chasnge us as a person, after going to the H.... for counciling and talking about the way we cope with situations and how we should try to change the person we are ....!!!!!!!!!!!!!! surely it's them that should change not us!!!!!!!!!!!!
Youngest (student on summer break from uni) just started a cleaning job the other day. All the cleaners gathered in their little staff room for their break this morning and talked about the amazing book they're all reading...
I know that was mean and I know some people can only do those kind of jobs for short times / summer jobs, but why are people so thick not to notice things like this. or is it just we are too awere of things after all we've been through !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I thought it though. And you're right, the ones reading the book are in the job year round. They asked if she'd read it, and whether she watched Eastenders. That sums it up. Apols to 'stenders fans reading this, I know it has its merits! She plans to avoid the fuss by taking in her reading for her dissertation that she's working on over the summer. Bet she doesn't get any reading done though! Oh, and to add insult to injury, they are bigoted and racist in their conversation too, the sort of 'Coming over here taking our jobs and claiming benefit at our expense' line. She will end up challenging because she's incensed by those attitudes.
But maybe 50 Grades of Garbage is a vultural phenomenon
