ARCHIVE - Life after abuse
I have been sleeping on my sisters sofa for 18 months after fleeing my home, now its time for me regain some interdependence , get a full time job and rent somewhere to live, but i have been told that because i own property that I will only be entitled to housing benefit for 6 months because the council consider 6 months long enough to sell a property, does anyone know if this is correct or they trying it on. my house( jointly owned) has been on the market for 1 year and not any offers.

I have no idea but would advise you to check this out with a citizens advice office they will know for sure. With the state of the ecconomy at the moment it seems unfair to expect a house to sell in six months but CAB will be able to verify if this is true or not.
