Women’s Aid is the national charity working to end violence against women and girls.  We support an England-wide network of over 300 local domestic and sexual violence organisations and campaign for more effective responses to violence against women and their children nationally and locally.

We are currently seeking four Trustees to strengthen our Board and two of these Trustees will hold leadership positions in the Women’s Sector ideally within member organisations. They will have demonstrable strategic vision and a real sense of determination and pride to support and lead our new Chief Executive Polly Neate and her team in an ambitious strategy. This will develop Women's Aid to provide support and add value to our members and give them a voice in policy-making at national level, as well as raising public awareness of violence against women and girls, its causes and its consequences. 

We are particularly seeking candidates with strong communication and business development skills and experience of lobbying and policy at the highest levels.   This role offers an exciting challenge and an opportunity to make a difference in a national context.

You must have the highest personal and professional integrity and be recognised as having the gift of leadership within the Women’s sector. You must be a good role model too, and be able to inspire the respect of the Chief Executive and the experienced Women’s Aid staff team.
Trustees will be responsible for ensuring that Women’s Aid complies with all its legal and regulatory requirements ensuring that the Charity’s governance is of the highest possible standard.  Our Board meets quarterly and we expect the commitment to be in the region of eight to ten days per year with teleconferences between meetings.  Included in this time allowance is two days for our Annual National Conference which takes place in July each year.   Our meetings are split between our London and Bristol offices and occasional overnight stays will be required.   Please note that this role is unremunerated. However, honorarium and expenses apply.

Domestic Abuse Pool Support Worker

We are looking to recruit Domestic Abuse Pool Support Workers to work in various Domestic Abuse teams cross London.

As a Domestic Abuse pool worker you will be joining a group of specialist support workers that will provide cover to our refuge and floating support services when needed. Your main role will be to develop and regularly review personal support plans to address individual support needs relating to support networks, domestic violence, legal advice, housing needs, tenancy support, support of children, access to learning or employment dependent on the individual’s aspirations and needs.

Our Domestic Abuse services is a wide team that consists of 29 Refuges, including Children and Families Services at each refuge, 5 floating support teams, 1 Advocacy teams, 2 peer to peer support groups and 1 MARAC Coordinator. These services exist across 10 London boroughs.

Bristol Rape Crisis (BRC) is a service run by women for women (of all ages and all backgrounds) who live in Bristol, South Gloucestershire, BANES, Somerset and North Somerset and who have experienced any form of sexual violence, at any point in their lives.

Camden Safety Net leads the Community Safety response for victims of domestic & sexual violence, to achieve safety of those of at high risk of serious harm and homicide. They provide a pro-active service to victims of Domestic & Sexual Violence to keep them and their children safe, by identifying and assessing the risks and needs of domestic & sexual violence victims using an evidence-based risk identification checklist, and/or other approved assessment tools.

Post-holders are required to manage a case-load and work directly with key agency partners to address the safety of victims to ensure that their safety plans are coordinated particularly through the MARAC and CATSE process by safe information sharing. The Young Person’s IDSVA will additionally need to identify victims who are vulnerable to gang violence and/or sexual exploitation.

The ideal person for these roles will need an awareness of issues which affect women and children, minority communities, same sex relationships and an awareness of issues which affect young women in relation to gangs and sexual exploitation which informs their delivery of appropriate interventions. You will understand the principles of risk assessment, safety planning and risk management for victims. You will have theoretical, practical and procedural knowledge of civil and criminal justice remedies for victims. You will be required to have an understanding of child protection issues, and the legal responsibilities surrounding these issues. You will have strong crisis management skills and the ability to deal with stressful and complex situations. Good communication skills are essential in order to deliver effective presentation to various professional and public bodies.

Key Requirements
•    Completion of the CAADA IDVA training or a commitment to undertake within a reasonable timescale of starting the role
•    Have strong crisis management skills and the ability to deal with stressful and complex situations
•    Ability to work diplomatically and collaboratively with other officers and staff with commitment to team working
•    Experience of managing a complex case-load
•    Experience of working in the field of domestic and/or sexual violence/exploitation in an advocacy capacity or related field with young people

Rape Crisis Manager

East London Rape Crisis Service provides free, confidential specialist help for women and girls who have been raped or experienced any other form of sexual violence.  The service is for women of all ages and girls over 14, whatever the assault and whenever it occurred.

The women who work and volunteer at ELRC offer confidential and independent support.  Services include emotional and practical support, one-to-one counselling, group support and advocacy.

nia is affiliated to Rape Crisis (England and Wales), an umbrella organisation supporting Rape Crisis Centres across the country. Rape Crisis is completely independent of the government and the criminal justice system.

The service is currently funded until 31st March 2014 with a possibility of further funding.

The Manager plays a key role in developing and maintaining the ELRC service, supporting the Head of Operations to manage the staff, offices and projects the service provides in order to provide high quality, supportive and culturally appropriate service to survivors of sexual violence

East London Rape Crisis Service provides free, confidential specialist help for women and girls who have been raped or experienced any other form of sexual violence.  The service is for women of all ages and girls over 14, whatever the assault and whenever it occurred.

The women who work and volunteer at Rape Crisis London offer confidential and independent support.  Services include emotional and practical support, one-to-one counselling, group support and advocacy.

nia is affiliated to Rape Crisis (England and Wales), an umbrella organisation supporting Rape Crisis Centres across the country. Rape Crisis is completely independent of the government and the criminal justice system.

The ELRC Advocate delivers a dual role for the service. She provides an advocacy service to female survivors, assisting clients with issues such as reporting crimes to the police, supporting through court cases, supporting to access appropriate medical and other services. The Advocate also raises awareness of sexual violence to agencies and organisations across East London.
We are looking for someone who is passionate about advocating for women who have experienced sexual violence and who has experience of delivering training on sexual violence.
